Acquiring Competence for the Creation of Competitive Advantages

چکیده

Society today has great expectations on small firms’ contribution to society as a whole. To be able to contribute small firms have to be competitive. Competitive advantage based on competence is not as easily copied by competitors, and, hence, more sustainable. Even though competence can be complicated to imitate, continual environmental changes mean that competence is not static and will not provide competitive advantages unless continuously developed. To achieve development, new competencies have to be acquired and the firm can, thereby, gain and sustain the competitive advantage of the firm. Staying competitive is an ongoing process, which makes the acquisition of competence a process of creating competitive advantages.
